Yet thus far fortune maketh us amends察And says that once more I shall
interchange My waned state for Henry's regal crown。 Well have we pass'd
and now repass'd the seas察And brought desired help from Burgundy察What
then remains察we being thus arriv'd From Ravenspurgh haven before the
gates of York察But that we enter察as into our dukedom拭GLOUCESTER。
The gates made fast Brother察I like not this察For many men that stumble at
the threshold Are well foretold that danger lurks within。 KING EDWARD。
Tush察man察abodements must not now affright us。 By fair or foul means we
must enter in察 For hither will our friends repair to us。 HASTINGS。 My
liege察I'll knock once more to summon them。
Enter察on the walls察the MAYOR OF YORK and his BRETHREN
MAYOR。 My lords察 we were forewarned of your coming And shut
the gates for safety of ourselves察For now we owe allegiance unto Henry。
KING EDWARD。 But察Master Mayor察if Henry be your King察Yet Edward
at the least is Duke of York。 MAYOR。 True察my good lord察I know you for
no less。 KING EDWARD。 Why察and I challenge nothing but my dukedom察
As being well content with that alone。 GLOUCESTER。 AsideАBut when
the fox hath once got in his nose察He'll soon find means to make the body
follow。 HASTINGS。 Why察Master Mayor察why stand you in a doubt拭Open

MONTGOMERY。 Then fare you well察 for I will hence again。 I came to
serve a king and not a duke。 Drummer察strike up察and let us march away。
The drum begins to marchАKING EDWARD。 Nay察stay察Sir John察a while察

MONTGOMERY。 What talk you of debating拭In few words此If you'll not
here proclaim yourself our King察I'll leave you to your fortune and be gone

pretend no title拭 GLOUCESTER。 Why察 brother察wherefore stand you on
nice points拭KING EDWARD。 When we grow stronger察then we'll make
our claim察 Till then 'tis wisdom to conceal our meaning。 HASTINGS。
Away with scrupulous wit Now arms must rule。 GLOUCESTER。 And
fearless minds climb soonest unto crowns。 Brother察we will proclaim you
out of hand察 The bruit thereof will bring you many friends。 KING
EDWARD。 Then be it as you will察for 'tis my right察And Henry but usurps
the diadem。 MONTGOMERY。 Ay察 now my sovereign speaketh like
