     Alarum。 Enter DUKE OF YORK察EDWARD察RICHARD察NORFOLK察

MONTAGUE察WARWICK察and soldiers察with white roses in their hats

       WARWICK。 I wonder how the King escap'd our hands。 YORK。

While we pursu'd the horsemen of the north察He slily stole away and left

his men察Whereat the great Lord of Northumberland察Whose warlike ears

could never brook retreat察 Cheer'd up the drooping army察 and himself察

Lord Clifford察 and Lord Stafford察 all abreast察 Charg'd our main battle's

front察 and察 breaking in察 Were by the swords of common soldiers slain。

EDWARD。 Lord Stafford's father察Duke of Buckingham察Is either slain or

wounded dangerous察I cleft his beaver with a downright blow。 That this is

true察father察behold his blood。 MONTAGUE。 And察brother察here's the Earl

of Wiltshire's blood察Whom I encount'red as the battles join'd。 RICHARD。

Speak thou for me察 and tell them what I did。 Throwing down

SOMERSET'S headАYORK。 Richard hath best deserv'd of all my sons。

But is your Grace dead察 my Lord of Somerset拭 NORFOLK。 Such hope

have all the line of John of Gaunt RICHARD。 Thus do I hope to shake

King Henry's head。 WARWICK。 And so do I。 Victorious Prince of York察

Before I see thee seated in that throne Which now the house of Lancaster

usurps察I vow by heaven these eyes shall never close。 This is the palace of

the fearful King察And this the regal seat。 Possess it察York察For this is thine察

and not King Henry's heirs'。 YORK。 Assist me then察sweet Warwick察and I

will察For hither we have broken in by force。 NORFOLK。 We'll all assist

you察he that flies shall die。 YORK。 Thanks察gentle Norfolk。 Stay by me察

my lords察And察 soldiers察 stay and lodge by me this night。 They go upА

WARWICK。 And when the King comes察offer him no violence。 Unless he

seek to thrust you out perforce。 YORK。 The Queen this day here holds her

parliament察But little thinks we shall be of her council。 By words or blows

here let us win our right。 RICHARD。 Arm'd as we are察let's stay within this

house。 WARWICK。 The bloody parliament shall this be call'd察 Unless

Plantagenet察 Duke of York察be King察And bashful Henry depos'd察 whose

cowardice Hath made us by´words to our enemies。 YORK。 Then leave me

not察 my lords察 be resolute此 I mean to take possession of my right。

WARWICK。 Neither the King察nor he that loves him best察The proudest he

that holds up Lancaster察Dares stir a wing if Warwick shake his bells。 I'll

plant Plantagenet察root him up who dares。 Resolve thee察Richard察claim the

English crown。 YORK occupies the throneА

       Flourish。 Enter KING HENRY察CLIFFORD察NORTHUMBERLAND察

WESTMORELAND察EXETER察and others察with red roses in their hats

KING HENRY。 My lords察look where the sturdy rebel sits察Even in

the chair of state Belike he means察Back'd by the power of Warwick察that

false peer察 To aspire unto the crown and reign as king。 Earl of

Northumberland察 he slew thy father察And thine察 Lord Clifford察 and you

both have vow'd revenge On him察his sons察his favourites察and his friends。

NORTHUMBERLAND。 If I be not察 heavens be reveng'd on me

CLIFFORD。 The hope thereof makes Clifford mourn in steel。

WESTMORELAND。 What察 shall we suffer this拭 Let's pluck him down察

My heart for anger burns察 I cannot brook it。 KING HENRY。 Be patient察

gentle Earl of Westmoreland。 CLIFFORD。 Patience is for poltroons such

as he察He durst not sit there had your father liv'd。 My gracious lord察here in

the parliament Let us assail the family of York。 NORTHUMBERLAND。

Well hast thou spoken察cousin察be it so。 KING HENRY。 Ah察know you not

the city favours them察 And they have troops of soldiers at their beck拭

EXETER。 But when the Duke is slain they'll quickly fly。 KING HENRY。

Far be the thought of this from Henry's heart察To make a shambles of the

parliament house Cousin of Exeter察frowns察words察and threats察Shall be

the war that Henry means to use。 Thou factious Duke of York察descend my

throne And kneel for grace and mercy at my feet察 I am thy sovereign。

YORK。 I am thine。 EXETER。 For shame察come down察he made thee Duke

of York。 YORK。 'Twas my inheritance察as the earldom was。 EXETER。 Thy

father was a traitor to the crown。 WARWICK。 Exeter察thou art a traitor to

the crown In following this usurping Henry。 CLIFFORD。 Whom should he

follow but his natural king拭WARWICK。 True察Clifford察and that's Richard

Duke of York。 KING HENRY。 And shall I stand察and thou sit in my throne拭

YORK。 It must and shall be so察content thyself。 WARWICK。 Be Duke of

Lancaster察 let him be King。 WESTMORELAND。 He is both King and

Duke of Lancaster察 And that the Lord of Westmoreland shall maintain。

WARWICK。 And Warwick shall disprove it。 You forget That we are those

which chas'd you from the field察And slew your fathers察and with colours

spread March'd through the city to the palace gates。

NORTHUMBERLAND。 Yes察 Warwick察 I remember it to my grief察And察

Plantagenet察of thee察and these thy sons察Thy kinsmen察and thy friends察I'll

have more lives Than drops of blood were in my father's veins。

CLIFFORD。 Urge it no more察 lest that instead of words I send thee察

Warwick察 such a messenger As shall revenge his death before I stir。

Protector lost it察and not I此When I was crown'd察I was but nine months old。

RICHARD。 You are old enough now察and yet methinks you lose。 Father察

tear the crown from the usurper's head。 EDWARD。 Sweet father察do so察set

it on your head。 MONTAGUE。 Good brother察as thou lov'st and honourest

arms察 Let's fight it out and not stand cavilling thus。 RICHARD。 Sound

drums and trumpets察 and the King will fly。 YORK。 Sons察 peace KING

attentive too察 For he that interrupts him shall not live。 KING HENRY。
