Futility
Move him into the sun Gently its touch awoke him once察At home察
whispering of fields unsown。 Always it woke him察even in France察Until
this morning and this snow。 If anything might rouse him now The kind old
sun will know。
Think how it wakes the seeds Woke察once察the clays of a cold star。
Are limbs so dear´achieved察are sides Full´nerved察 still warm察 too hard
to stir拭 Was it for this the clay grew tall拭 O what made fatuous
sunbeams toil To break earth's sleep at all拭

Meanwhile their foremost need is aerodromes察It being certain war has just

His fingers wake察and flutter up the bed。 His eyes come open with a
pull of will察Helped by the yellow may´flowers by his head。 A blind´cord

there's no light to see the voices by No time to dream察 and ask he
knows not what。

Sit on the bed察I'm blind察and three parts shell察Be careful察can't shake
hands now察never shall。 Both arms have mutinied against me brutes。 My

;Pushing up daisies察─is their creed察you know。 To grain察then察go my fat察to

nothing but the sun shall make me ware。 Your guns may crash around me。
I'll not hear察Or察if I wince察I shall not know I wince。 Don't take my soul's
poor comfort for your jest。 Soldiers may grow a soul when turned to
fronds察But here the thing's best left at home with friends。
My soul's a little grief察grappling your chest察To climb your throat on
sobs察easily chased On other sighs and wiped by fresher winds。
Carry my crying spirit till it's weaned To do without what blood
remained these wounds。

My arms have mutinied against me brutes My fingers fidget like
ten idle brats察My back's been stiff for hours察damned hours。 Death never
