In time came those maternal joys Which take the form of girls or boys察
And strange to say of each they'd one ´ A tiddy´iddy daughter察and a tiddy´

For thirty years this curious pair Hung out in Canonbury Square察And
somehow察wonderful to say察They loved each other dearly in a quiet sort of
way。
Well察THOMSON GREEN fell ill and died察For just a year his widow
cried察 And then her heart she gave away To the eligible lodger in the

Ballad此Bob Polter
BOB POLTER was a navvy察and His hands were coarse察and dirty too察
His homely face was rough and tanned察His time of life was thirty´two。
He lived among a working clan A wife he hadn't got at all察A decent察
steady察sober man ´ No saint察however ´ not at all。
He smoked察but in a modest way察Because he thought he needed it察He
drank a pot of beer a day察And sometimes he exceeded it。
At times he'd pass with other men A loud convivial night or two察With察
very likely察now and then察On Saturdays察a fight or two。
But still he was a sober soul察A labour´never´shirking man察Who paid
his way ´ upon the whole A decent English working man。
One day察when at the Nelson's Head For which he may be blamed of
you察 A holy man appeared察 and said察 Oh察 ROBERT察 I'm ashamed of
you。;
He laid his hand on ROBERT'S beer Before he could drink up any察
And on the floor察with sigh and tear察He poured the pot of ;thruppenny。;
;Oh察ROBERT察at this very bar A truth you'll be discovering察A good
and evil genius are Around your noddle hovering。
;They both are here to bid you shun The other one's society察For Total
Abstinence is one察The other察Inebriety。;
He waved his hand ´ a vapour came ´ A wizard POLTER reckoned him察
A bogy rose and called his name察And with his finger beckoned him。
The monster's salient points to sum察 His heavy breath was portery此
His glowing nose suggested rum此His eyes were gin´and´WORtery。
His dress was torn ´ for dregs of ale And slops of gin had rusted it察His
pimpled face was wan and pale察Where filth had not encrusted it。
;Come察 POLTER察─ said the fiend察 begin察 And keep the bowl a´
flowing on ´ A working man needs pints of gin To keep his clockwork
going on。;
BOB shuddered此 Ah察you've made a miss If you take me for one of
you此You filthy beast察get out of this ´ BOB POLTER don't wan't none of
you。;

The demon gave a drunken shriek察And crept away in stealthiness察And
lo instead察a person sleek察Who seemed to burst with healthiness。
;In me察as your adviser hints察Of Abstinence you've got a type ´ Of MR。
TWEEDIE'S pretty prints I am the happy prototype。
;If you abjure the social toast察And pipes察 and such frivolities察 You
possibly some day may boast My prepossessing qualities ─
BOB rubbed his eyes察 and made 'em blink此 You almost make me
tremble察you If I abjure fermented drink察Shall I察indeed察resemble you拭
;And will my whiskers curl so tight拭 My cheeks grow smug and
muttony拭 My face become so red and white拭 My coat so blue and
buttony拭
;Will trousers察 such as yours察 array Extremities inferior拭 Will
chubbiness assert its sway All over my exterior拭
;In this察my unenlightened state察To work in heavy boots I comes察Will
pumps henceforward decorate My tiddle toddle tootsicums拭
;And shall I get so plump and fresh察And look no longer seedily拭My
skin will henceforth fit my flesh So tightly and so TWEEDIE´ly拭─
The phantom said察 You'll have all this察 You'll know no kind of
huffiness察 Your life will be one chubby bliss察 One long unruffled
puffiness ─ Be off ─said irritated BOB。 ;Why come you here to bother
one拭You pharisaical old snob察You're wuss almost than t'other one
;I takes my pipe ´ I takes my pot察And drunk I'm never seen to be此I'm
no teetotaller or sot察And as I am I mean to be ─

Ballad此The Story Of Prince Agib
Strike the concertina's melancholy string Blow the spirit´stirring harp
like anything Let the piano's martial blast Rouse the Echoes of the Past察
For of AGIB察PRINCE OF TARTARY察I sing
Of AGIB察who察amid Tartaric scenes察Wrote a lot of ballet music in his
teens此His gentle spirit rolls In the melody of souls ´ Which is pretty察but I
don't know what it means。
Of AGIB察 who could readily察 at sight察 Strum a march upon the loud
Theodolite。 He would diligently play On the Zoetrope all day察And blow
the gay Pantechnicon all night。
One winter ´ I am shaky in my dates ´ Came two starving Tartar
minstrels to his gates察Oh察ALLAH be obeyed察How infernally they played
I remember that they called themselves the ;Ouaits。;
Oh that day of sorrow察 misery察 and rage察 I shall carry to the
Catacombs of Age察 Photographically lined On the tablet of my mind察
When a yesterday has faded from its page
Alas PRINCE AGIB went and asked them in察 Gave them beer察 and
eggs察and sweets察and scent察and tin。 And when as snobs would say They
had ;put it all away察─He requested them to tune up and begin。
Though its icy horror chill you to the core察I will tell you what I never
told before察 The consequences true Of that awful interview察 FOR I
LISTENED AT THE KEYHOLE IN THE DOOR
They played him a sonata ´ let me see MEDULLA OBLONGATA; ´
key of G。 Then they began to sing That extremely lovely thing察
SCHERZANDO MA NON TROPPO察PPP。;
He gave them money察more than they could count察Scent from a most
ingenious little fount察 More beer察 in little kegs察 Many dozen hard´boiled
eggs察And goodies to a fabulous amount。
Now follows the dim horror of my tale察 And I feel I'm growing
gradually pale察 For察 even at this day察 Though its sting has passed away察
When I venture to remember it察I quail
The elder of the brothers gave a squeal察All´overish it made me for to

I've a mystery I'm going to reveal
;Oh察 listen察 if you'd shun a horrid death察 To what the gent who's
speaking to you saith此No 'Ouaits' in truth are we察As you fancy that we be察

Said AGIB察 Oh accursed of your kind察I have heard that ye are men

speak I was mercilessly collared from behind。
In number ten or twelve察or even more察They fastened me full length
upon the floor。 On my face extended flat察I was walloped with a cat For
listening at the keyhole of a door。
Oh the horror of that agonizing thrill 。I can feel the place in frosty
weather still。 For a week from ten to four I w
